How to install the speakers of a 5.1 Home Cinema system?

Home Cinema 5.1 systems transform your living room into a cinema.

2.0 speakers, 2.1 speakers and sound bars are increasingly popular among lovers of good audio, using them connected to a SmartTV.

Installing a 5.1 Home Cinema sound system involves considering some aspects. Therefore, in this note we tell you the most important thing about how to assemble and calibrate it, taking a 5.1 sound bar as an example.

The 5.1 sound bar is one of the most popular sound systems to install with a SmartTV.

When installing it, one of the most important aspects is the placement of its bodies: sound bar, subwoofer and satellite speakers.

Sound bar

A 5.1 Home Cinema has three front speakers (one center and two sides), two rear satellite speakers and a subwoofer.

In the case of 5.1 sound bars, the three front speakers are built into the bar.

In this case and to achieve the best home theater feeling, the sound bar must be installed frontally, basically in the same place where the SmartTV is installed.

satellite speakers

Satellite speakers are very important to achieve the surround sound effect that a 5.1 sound bar or home theater offers you. Among other things, they are responsible for reproducing some sound effects, as well as secondary voices.

They must be located behind our heads, above their level (height). Ideally, they should be slightly turned inward, pointing in an imaginary line to the center of the SmartTV screen.

Subwoofer

The subwoofer is a very important element in a 5.1 sound bar, responsible for emitting the low frequency effects, as well as the bass that the rest of the speakers cannot reproduce.

We can place it near the television (in this case, preferably towards one of the two sides of it) or to the side of the listening position (generally choosing one of the sides of our chair).

Speaker Calibration

5.1 sound bars usually have volume calibration per channel. And it is at this point where we must take into account some basic aspects.

The first aspect is that each channel reproduces different sounds, therefore, we must regulate the sound of each channel, considering what we want to highlight.

For example, if we are going to listen to a movie with our 5.1 sound bar and we want to highlight the voices, we must give more volume to the center channel. If we want to highlight the sound effects, we will have to increase the volume of the satellite speakers. And if we want to give more depth to the bass, we will increase the volume of the subwoofer.

The second aspect to consider is the distance between the location of each speaker and the listening position, in order to compensate for the distance or closeness of each body of the home theater with our listening position. For example, if the satellite speakers are very close to our position (very close to our head), we must reduce their volume.

At Thonet & Vander we have worked for a long time to develop and offer you an innovative 5.1 sound system. For this reason, we have created the 5.1 Rein sound system, which avoids the unwanted wiring between all the home theater speakers, since it has a true Wireless connection.
